Co-operative Scholarship 2009

The objective of offering the Co-operative Scholarship is to attract, develop and nurture suitable talents to enter the ranks of the Co-operative Movement in Singapore.

The areas of undergraduate study allowed under the Scholarship are:

  • Accountancy

  • Business Management

  • Economics

  • Information Technology

  • Mass Communications / Communications and New Media

  • Statistics

What is Offered?

The Co-operative Scholarship is tenable for the duration of the Scholar’s undergraduate study at one of the three listed local universities, capped at four years. It covers full tuition fees and a maintenance allowance of S$3,500 per academic year. In addition, the recipient is entitled to a hostel accommodation allowance up to S$3,500 per academic year and a maximum computer grant of S$3,000.

Upon graduation, the Scholar is to be bonded to SNCF for a period of up to four years and may be deployed to work in the Co-operative and related sectors.

Who is Eligible?

All applicants must be Singapore citizens or permanent residents with outstanding GCE ‘A’ Level or Diploma results. Only applicants who are pursuing full-time first-degree courses at the Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore or Singapore Management University are eligible. First or second year students with outstanding academic results are also welcome to apply.

Assessment Criteria

Applicants must first seek admission to the institutions on their own and preferably be accepted for admission before being considered for the Scholarship.

Eligible applicants will be assessed based on the following criteria (not in order of importance):

a. Applicant’s academic records;

b. Applicant’s participation in Co-Curricular Activities (CCA);

c. Applicant’s leadership qualities and potential with interest in co-operative work; and

d. Other factors being equal, the financial background of the applicant.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit an essay before attending a panel interview.

How to Apply?

Application for the Co-operative Scholarship must be submitted on the prescribed application form. All certified true copies of supporting documents have to be attached.
