Wavelink Co-operative Ltd was jointly founded by the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) on 29 June 2000 as part of a greater shared vision to venture into new frontiers and business opportunities as well as provide social benefits to its members.
The acquisition of the five-storey freehold building in 2001, located at 75 Jellicoe Road, now known as Wavelink Building, was a strategic move in investment and to provide adequate space for its growing businesses. This property houses the Wavelink group of companies as well as SMOU. With the concerted contributions from a cohesive team of quality staff, the Wavelink Group has progressed and now encompasses over 4 subsidiary companies – Lighthouse Bistro,Wavelink Maritime Institute, Wavelink Thrift and Wavelink Travel.
As part of its commitment to social responsibility, profits generated from Wavelink’s different business endeavours are ploughed back into welfare benefits for SMOU members, their families and other social and charitable causes.
Wavelink further promotes opportunities for social interaction, cultural appreciation, healthy recreation and leisure activities on an economic co-operation basis, at the same time, create career opportunities for members in the maritime and/or other industries.
Recognising the vast business potential beyond Singapore, Wavelink is constantly in search of joint ventures and potential investments with synergistic opportunities as part of its expansion plans. Wavelink Group of companies continues to extend its business networks geographically across Asia and beyond.
