On 1 July, a group of 30 seniors departed Singapore at around 8am for Sekinchan, Malaysia. On board the coach were 10 beneficiaries from the Brahm Centre, ranging between 50 and 88 years old.  Brahm Centre is a registered charity that focuses on proactive actions to empower individuals to help themselves in staying healthy and mentally well. Also on board were members of Silver Horizon Travel Co-operative and Brahm Centre staff.

The trip to Sekinchan and Sky Mirror was made possible by the collaboration between Silver Horizon Travel Co-operative and Singapore Statutory Boards Employees' Co-operative (SSBEC). The participants visited the Paddy Gallery, paddy processing factory, Wishing Tree, Redang beach, fishing village of Bagan and the Sky Mirror.

To 88-year-old Woo Kim Seng, the Sekinchan and Sky Mirror was a revisit of good times. He said: "I am excited at the thought of being able to travel to Sekinchan in July 2019 and have been looking forward to travel there with some of my friends whom I've met at the Brahm Centre. I visited Sekinchan with a group of friends 45 years ago. I'm currently living on my own and at times, it can get really lonely, so I would consider this to be a rare opportunity. The trip was just like old times, and I truly enjoyed myself.”

Silver Horizons Sekinchan Tour 3Mr Abraham Ng Choo Soon, 74 years old, too enjoyed the trip. He shared: “The trip was well-organised and I was very happy to spend three days in Sekinchan. We visited many places. One of my favourite memories would be taking a boat out to the Sky Mirror beach where we took many photos! While I may not know some of the other seniors who went on trip at first, I’m glad to have made new friends. Now, we would meet up and spend time with each other at the Brahm Centre. If given the chance, I would like to go again.”

Dr William Goh, Chairman of Silver Horizon Travel Co-operative said: “The participants enjoyed the trip and we are grateful to SSBEC for making this trip possible for them. As part of our social mission, we conduct charity tours like the Sekinchan trip for seniors who have never owned a passport or have not travelled for a long period of time.  We hope through such efforts; we have helped to enrich their lives by providing them an opportunity to experience something different from daily living.”
