This year’s International Day of Co-operative, or CoopsDay, will fall on 5 July 2025, the first Saturday of July.
Titled “Co-operatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World”, this year’s CoopsDay comes at a time when the world is met by intensifying economic and climate-related crises, persistent inequality, and fragile social protection.
Unveiled by the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) earlier this month, this year’s theme spotlights the quiet, yet powerful role of co-operatives in delivering evidence-based and people-centered solutions.
The theme is selected jointly by the ICA and The Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC), in consultation with UN partners and the cooperative movement.
2025 marks a special year for the co-operative movement at large. The year has been coined as the second International Year of Co-operatives by the United Nations (UN), with co-operatives across the globe already committing and making plans to celebrate the long-lasting legacy behind the co-operative movement.
The UN will host a United Nations High-Level Political Forum in New York this July, and the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha in November.
"Across the globe, co-operatives are demonstrating that a values-driven enterprise approach can deliver real and lasting solutions. CoopsDay 2025 is a moment to recognize this collective strength and reaffirm our dedication to an inclusive and sustainable path forward,” says Mr Jeroen Douglas, Director General of the ICA.
“This year’s theme reflects both the identity and urgency of the co-operative model,” said Mr Wenyan Yang, Chair of the COPAC.
Mr Yang adds: “In a time of global uncertainty, cooperatives are showing that development can be democratic, inclusive, and rooted in solidarity. CoopsDay 2025 is our chance to amplify that message to the world.”
Last year’s theme pays homage to the how co-operatives build a sustainable future.
Co-ops looking to bask in the celebration can consider incorporating the new International Year of Co-operative logo onto their marketing collaterals, or submit their stories onto Stories.coop.
2025 marks the 103rd International Co-operative Day, and the 31st UN International Day of Co-operatives.
