NTUC FairPrice Group’s 2024 Sustainability Report charts an encouraging course.
According to the report published in May this year, the Group saved 145 million plastic bags through its “No Plastic Bag” initiative, a two per cent increase from previous year, and avoided nearly 10 million straws by serving canned drinks without straws at Kopitiams. Meanwhile, its fleet of electric vans expanded by 250% from the previous year, reaching 35 vehicles.
On the food waste front, FairPrice’s IMPerfect Fellas initiative gave blemished but edible produce a second life, saving over 1,095 tonnes of fruits and vegetables from being tossed, a 9.8% increase from 2023. IMPerfect Fellas was featured in a recent campaign by the Singapore National Co-operative Federation.
But its efforts go beyond environmental impact. In 2024 alone, the Group returned nearly $200 million to members, customers, and the community through discounts, rebates, and donations, a 40 per cent increase from the previous year. Volunteerism also grew, with staff clocking 4,636 hours, up 24% from 2023.
“Our aspiration is to be a change leader, and we invite our customers, suppliers and partners to be part of this journey together,” said FairPrice Group’s CEO Vipul Chawla. “We want to make this world liveable for future generations.”
Perhaps no initiative encapsulates this spirit more than the Group’s newly refurbished sustainable flagship store at City Square Mall, which prides itself to be a circular, low-waste retail concept focused on local produce and community education. It earned global nods as Institute of Global Distribution’s Store of the Month (Dec 2024) and Top Store to Visit in 2025.
As one of Singapore’s most recognisable co-operative brands, NTUC FairPrice, alongside the other co-operatives under the Group, continues to show what’s possible when values drive action … every day, a little better.
